Jose Ortuno, EIT
Graduate Engineer
Jose joined Datum Rios in 2025, he is a structural engineering professional with a well-rounded background in design, analysis, and hands-on construction experience. His diverse experience spans structural, geotechnical, and civil engineering, providing a strong foundation in both technical design and real-world project execution.
Jose has experience reviewing construction document submittals to ensure accuracy and compliance, as well as performing modeling and analysis of tilt-up wall systems using spWall. His technical expertise includes the design and analysis of concrete joists and girders utilizing ADAPT PT/RC, along with baseplate design for gravity and wind-braced columns using in-house tools and the Hilti Profis Engineering Suite. They are also experienced in the modeling, analysis, and design of steel-concrete composite structures using Tekla Structural Designer.
Jose completed multiple engineering internships focused on geotechnical, structural, and civil design. These experiences provided exposure to field testing, foundation systems, and hydraulic modeling, while supporting design teams and contributing to technical deliverables. As a result, he developed a solid understanding of project management practices and industry engineering standards.
Jose has a strong background in construction and fieldwork. As an intern with Noble Texas Builders, he gained experience in project management, blueprint review, and collaboration with general contractors, while shadowing project managers, superintendents, and estimators. Their early experience in welding, developed through a family-owned business, included the fabrication of structural steel components such as joists, wide flange members, columns, and baseplates, as well as contributing to the construction of pre-engineered metal buildings. In 2020, they further expanded their field experience with Specialty Tank Services (STS), assisting in the construction of above-ground storage tanks, including civil work, tank erection, and pipe welding.
Jose contributed to research focused on the design of skewed highway bridges. Using CSI Bridge software, they analyzed structural behavior and refined bridge parameters, supporting the advancement of technical design solutions.
Jose holds a Bachelors of Science and Engineering: Civil Engineering from the University of at Texas Rio Grande Valley and is a licensed Engineering-In-Training.
